Your Choice of River
When you book this experience, we will contact you about the conditions of the rivers and difficulty level to help you choose the right river for you and your group. Much of it depends on the season and amount of recent rainfall. Bali’s two white water rafting experiences are the Telaga Waja and Ayung rivers.
Telaga Waja – Fast and Thrilling
Located in the northeastern part of the island, the Telaga Waja is near the Village of Karangasem. Perhaps due to its distance, it’s not as popular as the Ayung River in Ubud, but it is more challenging and hence, more thrilling. Its rapids range from a class 3 to class 4, depending on the amount of recent rainfall. Though it is more challenging, it is still suitable for beginners and those who have never been white water rafting. It is not appropriate for young children. For river trips more suitable for families, please select the Ayung river.
Ayung River – Slow and Peaceful
The most popular river for travelers, perhaps due to its close proximity to Ubud, is the lazy Ayung river. It still has a few minor rapids, but is more of a river cruise experience than a thrilling river rafting adventure. It is suitable for children.
Our friendly, English-speaking and licensed driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you directly to the river where you will meet your guide and be briefed on safety and paddling procedures. You will receive your helmet, paddle and life vest and enter the water in a calm area where you can practice a few maneuvers before heading down the river.
You’ll raft for a few kilometers where you may experience rapids, minor waterfalls, hairpin turns and calm areas where you can enjoy the jungle surroundings and view ancient ruins.
Upon your destination, you’ll alight from your raft, dry off and sit down for a traditional style Balinese buffet lunch and chat about your experience with other rafters. Here’ you’ll also be able to purchase pictures of your experience.
After lunch, you’ll board the van and head back to your hotel.
